Before you go
Island hopping and full-time work only mix if you keep one base. Rent monthly on the island with the best internet, then plan weekends to nearby islands that you don't need to work from. Ferries are often cancelled in rough weather, so avoid booking a trip that ends the night before an important meeting, and check monsoon seasons, which differ between the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea.
Data is everything on small islands, where Wi-Fi can be patchy. A regional eSIM from Airalo, GigSky or Yesim works across Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines, so you don't need a new SIM in each country.
Ferry tickets and boat trips can be booked on arrival in most places, but popular routes sell out in high season. Klook and KKday sell many of them in advance. On the islands themselves, scooters are the norm; BikesBooking lists rentals with helmets included.
Keep your base booked monthly, travel light on the weekends, and check the ferry schedule before the monsoon does it for you.
